Two KCII area girls wrestling teams are on the mat today at the Wilton Women’s Wrestling Tournament.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks opened the season Tuesday at North Scott where they finished fourth as a team, led quartet of individual titles. Ellie Brenneman, Ashlee Farrier, Emmerson Moore and Austyn Sexton all climbed to the top of the podium in their divisions. Addyson Ascher, Adelyn Huston and Ellie Callahan were runners-up while Ruby Miller, Madison Reinier, Kirstyn Bell and Mardie Berry were third.

This is the season opener for Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union. They had an abbreviated dual season a year ago, finishing 1-2. Individually, the ‘Cats were led by Dakota Storm with 11 wins last season. Others who finished .500 or better included Audrey Hoback, Lecet Quiroz and Emily Miranda.

Joining these two local schools today are Anamosa, Davenport Assumption, Davenport Public, Durant, Fairfield, Mount Vernon, Muscatine, Tipton and the home Beavers. Action starts at 9:30 this morning and continues all day Saturday at Wilton High School.
