There will be plenty of familiar faces that suit up for the Washington Demons on the wrestling mat this season. One change will be former assistant Justin Chambers becoming the head coach. Chambers has previously been the head coach at WACO and inherits a roster featuring three state qualifiers and five wrestlers who won at least 20 matches last season.
One of those returners is junior Aaron Boone, who was one of the most dominant wrestlers in the state in his weight class last season. Boone was state ranked most of the season at 120 pounds and went 40-3 on his way to winning a district championship and finishing sixth in Class 2A.
Senior Chase Greiner also returns after a trip to state and finishing second in Class 2A District 9 by going 42-10 at 160 lbs, while sophomore Caden Greiner will try to build on a brilliant debut season that included going 36-7, finishing runner-up at 132 at districts and reaching state.
Also back for the Demon boys is junior Nate Edmonds, who won 29 matches at 106 lbs; junior Jude Carter, who had 28 victories at 145; and junior Lane Schrock, who picked up 18 wins at 152.
The Washington girls lose their lone state qualifier in Teegan Sulentich, but seniors Jillian Langstraat and Jenna Bose return after each winning nine matches last season. While the ladies get the season started Monday with a tournament at West Liberty, the Demon boys will have their first tournament December 1st at Cascade.
