As part of National Rural Health Day, Washington County Hospital and Clinics (WCHC) recently announced it has been recognized with a 2023 Performance Leadership Award for excellence in Patient Perspective. Compiled by the Chartis Center for Rural Health, the Performance Leadership Awards honor top quartile performance (i.e., 75th percentile or above) among rural hospitals in Quality, Outcomes and/or Patient Perspective. WCHC is one of approximately 1,350 critical access hospitals in the nation. Each of these hospitals was considered for these top-performing designations. Critical access hospitals comprise about 25 percent of hospitals in the United States, are typically located in rural areas, and are limited to 25 acute care beds.
