Threee of the best senior football players in the area have received the highest individual honor in the sport, as Columbus’ Kaden Amigon and WACO’s Colton Leichty and Chase Waterhouse have each been named all-state by the Iowa Football Coaches Association and the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.

Amigon has been named a first-team running back in Class A for a second straight season after he racked up over 1,800 rushing yards and 29 offensive touchdowns. It’s the third straight 1,000-yard season for Amigon, who finishes his career with over 5,400 total yards on the ground and 71 TDs scored, a big reason why Columbus went 6-3 and had back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in 30 years.

Leichty was a force of nature for WACO this season, piling up 18-and-a-half tackles for loss and seven sacks on his way to first-team honors as an 8-man defensive lineman. Leichty was second on the Warriors with 53 total stops and also recovered two fumbles and intercepted a pass.

Waterhouse makes the second-team offensive line after paving out an open road for WACO to gain over 280 yards per game and score more than 43 points per contest. One of the leaders in the trenches for the Warriors, Waterhouse was a key part of a team that went 7-2 and reached the second round of the state playoffs.
