After one of the best seasons in school history and reaching the state semifinals, it’s no surprise that four Winfield-Mount Union players have landed spots on this year’s Iowa 8-man football all-state team, as voted on by the Iowa Football Coaches Association and the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.

Three Wolves make first-team all-state, including linebacker Cam Buffington. The senior was second in 8-man and sixth in the state across all classes with 106-and-a-half total tackles, including 18.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. Buffington was a key cog in a stout WMU defense that allowed only 16 points per game.

Also on the first-team defense is senior Cole Milks, who had 51 tackles and five interceptions at defensive back. Junior Cooper Buffington makes the first-team offensive line after paving the road for an offense that averaged over 364 yards and 54 points per contest.

Rounding out the all-state selections for Winfield-Mount Union is senior Abram Edwards, who is selected to the second-team defensive line after a monster season where he piled up 22.5 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks. WMU went 11-1 this season and made their first trip to the UNI-Dome in 24 years.
