A long-awaited event each year, Christmas in Kalona makes its return on Saturday, December 2.
The day’s activities will be found at three different locations in town. Downtown Kalona has the Kids’ Walking Stocking and Shopping, live music, and sidewalk campfires. Best of Iowa and Kalona Chocolates are offering cider and cocoa, there is a Live Nativity and Christmas movie at the Kalona Public Library, and a poured painting event is at the Kalona Brewery.
The Kalona YMCA meanwhile is hosting the Christmas Market, photos with Santa, and the Cookie Walk. Additional Kids’ activities will be available, including face painting, cookie decorating and ornament making.
As dusk sets on Kalona Saturday, the Historical Village is the sight of wagon rides, caroling, and the Christmas Tree Walk. The Lighted Golf Cart Parade kicks off at 5 p.m. followed by a sled giveaway at 5:30.
Director for the Kalona Chamber of Commerce, Tonia Poole explained to KCII that this event is truly a year in the making. “As soon as it’s over, we evaluate, like what went really well, what do we wanna tweak for next year. We already start planning for the next year as soon as it’s over.”
