Area girls’ wrestlers descended on the Fort Madison Invitational on Monday night, and the big winner was WACO’s Rylee Rice. The junior was the tournament champion at 110 pounds by pinning all three of her opponents. Warrior junior Elyssa Graber was the runner-up at 105 lbs by getting a pair of pins but losing an 11-3 major decision in the title bout.

Freshman Deedra Graber was sixth at 115 and junior Athena Flores and freshman Macy Bonebrake were each fourth at 120 and 190, respectively, as WACO finished 10th in the team standings.

The best team finish among area teams belonged to Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union, which was sixth in scoring behind a third-place finish from senior Dakota Storm at 145 lbs; senior Lecet Quiroz finishing fourth at 155; sophomore Quinn Smith taking fifth at 130; and junior Maritza Tovar and sophomore Yaleen Miranda earning sixth at 105 and 135, respectively.

Highland was 11th in the team standings but had an individual runner-up in freshman Chloe Sexton, losing the final at 190 lbs in a 12-5 decision. Junior Lilly Barre was third at 120; senior Abbie Grout was fourth at 100; and junior Peggy Miller was fifth at 155 to round out the Huskies’ medalists.
