The Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union boys’ wrestling team started its season on a high note by defeating Mount Pleasant 64-15 in home duals Tuesday night. Along with junior Jacob Nelson winning by a 14-1 major decision at 113 pounds, Columbus/WMU also got victories by pin from senior Ty Scorpil at 132; sophomore Bowen Thomson at 138; junior Kohlby Newsom at 144; sophomore Trevor Phillips at 157; senior Cole Storm at 165; sophomore Kason Dopler at 175; and senior Russell Coil at 285.

Although it didn’t count towards team scoring, the Wildcats also got pins to win from senior Cael Phillips at 150 lbs; sophomore Keaton Starkweather at 175; and freshman Ronaldo Villegas at 215. Senior Jarit Tapia was also a winner by injury forfeit at 150 for Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union, which next competes Saturday at Williamsburg.
