Many area communities are celebrating the holiday season this weekend, and the City of Brighton is no exception. Tomorrow night, Brighton is hosting its annual Tree Lighting and Cookies with Santa event.

This is the third year that the City is holding a lighting ceremony, which has been put on by the Brighton Chamber of Commerce. Treasurer for the Chamber, Jan Miller, tells KCII the plan for the ceremony, which begins Saturday night at 5 p.m. in Brighton’s Central Park. “We will light the tree, but before we do that we will have the Mayor down there who will say a couple words, and we have as many of the City Council people that we can there to represent it. Then we light the tree and then we sing a couple songs.”

Once the tree is lit, Santa Claus will be arriving in Brighton on a fire truck. Kids can meet with Santa at City Hall, where he will have a small gift for each of them. Guests are also welcome to enjoy some cookies and hot cocoa. There is no cost to attend the Brighton Tree Lighting or Cookies with Santa.
