U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley spoke to KCII News about a federal regulatory change that could impact rural pharmacies, and how he is advocating for them to stay open, “The Pharmacy Benefit Managers which are the people between the companies, and you as a consumer, or your local pharmacist, and the impact that they have because they decide formularies, they decide prices, we don’t know who benefits from them. They could make billions of dollars, and they negotiate rebates, besides setting prices. And who gets the benefits of the rebates, the insurance companies, the pharmaceutical companies, the PBMs, the local pharmacist, or you as a consumer? We don’t know.”   Grassley is amplifying calls for Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to work with pharmacy benefit managers – middlemen with significant and concentrated influence over the prescription medication market – to help rural drugstores keep their doors open and continue serving patients
