A new archery season gets underway today at Washington High School for a pair of teams in the KCII listening area. The Demons are coming off of a successful year where they sent 64 individual archers to the state meet in Des Moines. In the state capital, the high school Demons were 13th in both the 3D and bullseye contests. Top individual bullseye finishes for Washington included Josh Anderson 10th in the boys shoot and Madison Conway 43rd for the girls. In 3D, Hayden Janecek was 34th in the girls shoot and Jonathan Moore 52nd for the boys.

Washington’s middle school bullseye team finish was fourth and their 3D finish sixth. Individually in bullseye, Gabrielle Andrew led the way in seventh place for the girls, Mason Pierce was 37th for the boys. In 3D, Hannah Lipski placed 24th in the girls contest and Ethan Hotchkiss was 29th for the boys.

The Lincoln Demons were state runners-up in 3D and third in bullseye. Individually in bullseye, Jordan Thorius and Miriam Pierce were eighth in the boys and girls shoots respectively. In 3D, Madalyn Roundy was the top girl, placing seventh and Jace Helfrich the top boy in ninth.

Andrew, Thorius, Pierce, Jace Helfrich, Lilith Hernandez and Madalyn Roundy all advanced to compete at Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks sent a program record 45 athletes to state. In Des Moines, the high school Hawks were 30th in the team bullseye race, led by Elijah Statler 75th in the boys competition and Allie Whetstine 110th for the girls. In 3D, the high school Hawks were 19th as a team, with Statler and Whetstine again the individual leaders finishing 41st in the boys contest and 63rd in the girls ranks respectively.

The middle school team was 28th in bullseye led by Lael Seale 26th for the girls and Tommy Miller 76th for the boys. In 3D, the middle schoolers were 10th with Miller again the top boy in 37th and Seale the top girl in 54th.

The elementary Hawks were placed by Lara Brenneman’s 36th in girls bullseye, Nolan Mohling 59th in boys. Brenneman was 15th in the girls 3D contest.

These schools will be joined today by Marion, North Scott, and Van Buren. Action continues all day Saturday at Washington High School.
