The Sigourney Savages and Keota Eagles both picked up boys’ basketball wins Friday night against conference foes. Sigourney defeated Tri-County 67-34, building on an early 14-8 lead to go up 26-16 at halftime. A huge third quarter on offense stretched the lead to 25 points as the Savages cruised to their first win of the season and improved to 1-1 both in the South Iowa Cedar League and overall.

Keota got to 2-0 in the league and 4-0 overall by knocking off Iowa Valley 67-30. Already up 16-9 after a quarter of play, Keota’s offense got hot in the second period to stretch the advantage to 21 points by the half and never look back. Senior Sawyer Stout paced the Eagles with a game-high 24 points scored, while junior Billie Kindred had a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds and senior Aiden McGuire added eight points, four rebounds, two assists and three steals off the bench.

The Keota girls were not as fortunate, falling 41-37 to Iowa Valley Friday. The Eagles only trailed 14-8 at the end of the first quarter, but it was a deficit they would never overcome, as despite hanging tough, they are still winless on the season. Both Keota teams next play Tuesday against English Valleys, while both Sigourney squads take on Belle Plaine that night.
