The WACO Warriors came up with a pair of home basketball wins over Wapello Friday night. That included the first victory of the season for the WACO girls, as the Warriors broke open what was a close game most of the night by closing things out with a 23-8 run and winning by a final of 63-46. Senior Emma Wagler led WACO with 19 points scored, while junior Ella Huisenga had 16 points and senior Naomi Egli poured in 11 to help the Warriors improve to 1-2.
The WACO boys also picked up their first victory of the season, jumping out to a 19-5 lead over Wapello after a quarter of play and going on to win 63-30. Without star senior guard Hunter Hughes, other players stepped up in a big way for the Warriors, like Clayton Miller scoring a game-high 15 points and fellow junior Isaac Rich finishing with 14 points.
Senior Reece Oswald added 10 points and Colton Leichty had nine as WACO moves to 1-1. Both Warrior teams return to action tomorrow night against Winfield-Mount Union.
