Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union girls’ wrestling came up with a fourth-place finish as a team at the Pekin Invitational Monday. Leading the way was junior Josie Nelson, who was the tournament champion at 140 pounds by pinning all three of her opponents.
The Wildcats also had third-place finishes from sophomore Quinn Smith and freshman Jada Moats at 130 and 190 lbs, respectively, while sophomore Yaleen Miranda was sixth at 135 and Columbus/WMU got fourth-place medals from junior Maritza Tovar at 105; sophomore Jana Isanata at 120; and senior Lecet Quiroz at 155.
Highland finished fifth in team scoring behind three individual winners. Senior Angelina Roling had a pair of pins to take the title at 110 lbs, as did junior Lilly Barre at 120 and freshman Chloe Sexton at 190. Senior Abbie Grout was third at 100 lbs for the Huskies, while junior Peggy Miller defeated senior teammate Jenna Bose to take fifth place at 155.
While Sigourney-Keota was 10th as a team, junior Reanah Utterback won another tournament title by picking up a trio of pins at 115 lbs. Sophomore Jolie Wehr and senior Lana Thomas were sixth at 105 and 120, respectively, for SK, while Lone Tree’s top finish belonged to junior Kayleigh Rundlett in third place at 135.
