Home dates on the calendar are few and far between this season for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team. They have their first of just two events this year inside Tim Grady Gymnasium tonight when they entertain Monticello and Iowa City Regina in a pair of River Valley Conference duals. The Hawks have a 1-2 dual record this season after their quad at West Branch a week ago where they defeated Dyersville Beckman but fell to Tipton and the home Bears. Mid-Prairie’s last action was Saturday at the Jeremy Fulk Classic at New London where they crowned a pair of champions with Treyvin Riley at 106lbs and Burke Berry at 285. Tucker Miller leads the Hawks in the win column this year at 9-1. Riley, Miller, Berry, Mason and Max Howe, Max Kipp, Jarron Thomas, Tommy Miller, Brock Fisher and Quinn Callahan all come into the night with winning records. The Hawks will also honor three seniors, Dalton and Tucker Miller and Jarron Thomas. They talked with KCII Sports about what it’s like to wrestle in front of the home fans in Wellman. They said, “The home meets are great. Being able to wrestle on your home mat, in the gym, in front of your friends, family and the fans. It’s very intense. Quite a few people come. It gets loud! The matches feel more fun!”

Monticello comes into the night with a 2-1 dual record after a quad with Anamosa, Camanche and Durant a week ago where they got wins over the Storm and the Wildcats and fell to the Blue Raiders. They placed fourth over the weekend at their home tournament crowning three champions, Jonah Luensman at 120lbs, Cael Sampson at 126 and Dylan Monk at 190. The Panthers beat the Hawks last year 58-18.

Iowa City Regina is 5-4 on the dual season after a 3-3 weekend at the Jesup tournament over the weekend where the Regals got victories over Iowa Valley, North Tama and AGWSR but were beaten by Central Springs, Clear Lake and the home J-Hawks. Brendan Baker at 113lbs leads the Regals with his 6-3 record. Mid-Prairie beat the Regals last season 51-30.

Action starts tonight at 6p.m. at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman.
