The Highland Huskies earned another Southeast Iowa Super Conference victory in girls’ basketball Tuesday night, defeating Louisa-Muscatine 31-21. Highland trailed by a point at the end of both the first quarter and the first half, but a 13-7 run in the third period put the Huskies up 23-18 and stayed in front the rest of the way.
Senior Sarah Burton carried Highland to victory with game highs of 22 points, 18 rebounds and four steals. Senior Stella Slaymaker added five points and five rebounds as the Huskies improve to 2-1 in the Super Conference North and 5-1 overall.
Highland fell to Louisa-Muscatine in the boys’ game 67-41, as a 20-11 deficit swelled to a 20-point margin by halftime. The Huskies are still winless through three games, with both Highland teams next playing tomorrow at home against Pekin.
