It’s another busy weekend for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling teams with both in tournament action. The Golden Hawk boys will host the annual Colton Allen Invitational Tournament today at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman. This year’s event features a twist, moving from a traditional 8-man bracket tournament to a dual tourney in 2023. The Hawks have a 1-4 dual record this year after a pair of setbacks Thursday on Senior Night, falling to Monticello 45-33 and Iowa City Regina 48-28. Tucker Miller paces the Golden Hawks this season with 11 wins. Other athletes with winning records include Trevyn Riley, Max Howe, Max Kipp, Jarron Thomas, Tommy Miller, Burke Berry, Brock Fisher and Quinn Callahan. Joining the Hawks today in Wellman are Benton, Iowa Valley, Mediapolis and Cedar Rapids Prairie. Action starts at 9:30 this morning and continues all day Saturday at Tim Grady Gymnasium.

The Golden Hawk girls travel to Vinton-Shellsburg for a traditional tournament. The Hawks were last in action Monday at the Williamsburg Girl’s Invitational where Ellie Brenneman had the top finish, placing fourth. Other place winners for Mid-Prairie included Austyn Sexton fifth, Mardie Berry and Shelby Stacey each sixth and Ellie Callahan seventh.

The WACO Warriors also make the trip to Vinton-Shellsburg today. They were also in action Monday at Williamsburg where Riley Rice had the top area finish overall, placing third. Other Warriors who competed included Athena Flores, Emma Szewcsyk and Macy Bonebrake.
