
Despite periods of rain and snow over the last two weeks, drought conditions persist through the KCII listening area, with extreme drought observed between Iowa’s northern and southern border.
Extreme drought is the second-highest rating on the intensity scale from the National Drought Mitigation Center. According to their latest report, 100 percent of both Jefferson and Johnson Counties are experiencing extreme drought. Washington County is not far behind at 93.7 percent.
Each of the seven counties in the KCII listening area are seeing extreme drought regions as well, with Henry County at 63.84 percent, Iowa County at 47.63 percent, Keokuk County at 45.59 percent, and Louisa County at 37.36 percent.
