Washington Demon boys’ wrestling put together a strong group effort Saturday, finishing sixth in team scoring at the Mount Vernon Invitational. Three Washington wrestlers finished second place in their respective weight classes. That included junior Aaron Boone, who won his first two bouts by pin at 132 pounds but lost the final in a 3-1 decision.

Sophomore Caden Greiner pinned his first two opponents at 126 lbs before falling by an 8-0 major decision in the championship bout, while senior Chase Grenier had a pin in the quarterfinals and won an 11-0 major decision in the semis before dropping the title bout by an 8-1 decision at 157.

The Demons also got fifth-place finishes from junior Jude Carter at 138; senior Lane Schrock at 150; and freshman Blaine Rees at 190. Washington’s medalist count was rounded out by sixth-place finishes from freshmen Joseph Schreiber and Greyson Hartman at 106 and 215, respectively.

Sigourney-Keota also wrestled at Mount Vernon and had sixth-place finishers in junior Brady Clark at 138 and senior Jake Moore at 165. SK junior Reanah Utterback was a champion at the Marion Girls’ Tournament Saturday, getting a pin and a technical knockout in the pool stage before pinning her final two opponents to take the title at 115 lbs.

The Highland girls also took part in the action at Marion and finished 11th in the team standings. Senior Angelina Roling had the best individual finish by taking runner-up honors at 110 lbs, pinning all three of her pool opponents and winning an 8-5 overtime decision in the semifinals before getting pinned in the title bout. Junior Lilly Barre was third at 120 lbs, while freshman Chloe Sexton was fourth at 190 and senior Abbie Grout was fifth at 100 pounds for the Huskies.
