The Washington Demons held on down the stretch to earn a road victory in boys’ basketball last night, knocking off Oskaloosa 62-57. Washington had a brilliant first half on offense, doubling a nine-point lead in the first quarter to build a 41-23 advantage by halftime.
Oskaloosa would respond in a big way behind sophomore guard Max Roach’s game-high 25 points, 14 of which would come in the third period to trim the Demon lead to 48-42. But Washington would be able to hold serve in the final quarter and secure back-to-back wins.
After hitting back-to-back three-pointers to start the night, sophomore Drew Conrad hit clutch free throws late in the game to put away the victory on his way to a team-high 19 points scored. Junior Logan McDole added 15 points and was seven-of-eight at the free-throw line, while freshman Nic Stone hit a pair of threes and scored nine points off the bench to help the Demons improve to 3-3.
The Washington girls also came away with a 53-26 home victory over West Liberty yesterday, making it back-to-back wins that push the Demons’ record to 4-3. Both Washington teams will next play Friday against their fierce rivals from Mount Pleasant.
