U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley spoke with KCII about his time with the recently-passed Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, “First of all, I was a new member of the United States Senate, we had a new President Reagan, and he promised to put a woman on the Supreme Court, that woman was Sandra Day O’Connor. I had the chance to vote for her and from that standpoint, I don’t suppose after asking her questions before the committee, where she came to my office for a private meeting for her to answer my questions of should I vote for her or against her and obviously I voted for her. And then maybe a few other times I interacted with her. But I can tell you, she made a big impact on the court as a justice, besides the history she made being the first woman on the Supreme Court.” Sandra Day O’Connor was an American attorney, politician, and jurist who served as an associate justice of the United States Supreme Court from 1981 to 2006. O’Connor was the first woman to serve as a U.S. Supreme Court justice.
