The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team put an end to a two-game losing streak with a 62-50 win at Pekin Thursday. The Hawks started quick, leading 19-8 after one quarter. Pekin answered with a 16-9 run during the second period, to cut the Golden Hawk lead to 28-24 at half. After the break, the Golden Hawks methodically pulled away, winning the third 17-14 and the final frame 17-12 to take the win. Mid-Prairie outshot the Panthers 41-33%, dished out 15 assists and forced 20 turnovers. The Hawks were led by 15 points from Landon Sullivan, 13 from Brady Weber and 12 for Dylan Henry. Weber also led with eight boards, six assists and four steals. This week, Mid-Prairie head boys basketball coach Daren Lambert joined the KCII Radio Coaches Corner to talk about the win. Lambert said, “A lot of times for us it comes down to just defending and rebounding and using those things to create easy offense for ourselves. Anytime we go on a big run, usually those things are complimenting each other. At points in time Thursday night, we did extremely well with that, especially the start of the second half when we went on a run. We were playing great defense and being efficient on offense. When you can do that, you usually can build a big lead.”
The win moved Mid-Prairie to 3-3 on the year, while Pekin fell to 3-4.
