The Washington County Riverboat Foundation held its Fall Grant Reception on Wednesday, November 29. Twenty-six grants were awarded to deserving groups and organizations, with one of those being the Washington County Freedom Rock Park in Brighton.
The Washington County Freedom Rock pays tribute to the rich military history and service in the State of Iowa. Thanks to a $2,536 grant, engraved pavers at the park that have faded over time can be replaced, as well as plants that died due to this year’s drought.
Cathy Rich, one of four representatives for the park who accepted the grant, tells KCII what it means for the community. “It’s just wonderful to have the support of the Washington County Riverboat Foundation. They believe in the park. They helped us create the park in the first place. This grant here helps us to continue the updates [and] to continue making it a destination.”
The Washington County Riverboat Foundation’s 2023 fall grants totaled more than $2.1 million.
