In front of a packed house at Tim Grady Gymnasium Friday night, the Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams gave their brooms a workout, sweeping away the visiting Durant Wildcats in a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk boys overwhelmed the Wildcats 81-43. The Hawks led 25-15 after one and put together a 20-7 run that spanned the entire second period to take a 45-22 lead into the break. Mid-Prairie made sure to close the door with an 18-8 run that lasted the entire fourth quarter. The Hawks shot a sizzling 52% from the floor and the Golden Hawk snipers knocked down 11 threes. Mid-Prairie won the boards by five, dished out 20 assists, had 13 steals and forced 16 Durant turnovers. Four Golden Hawks got to double figures led by 20 points from Ace Peck, including six made threes. Bryce Henry scored 16 and added nine boards, Landon Sullivan had a dozen points and four steals and Brady Weber 11 points and six assists. The win moves Mid-Prairie to 4-3 on the year, while Durant sits at 0-8.
In the girls contest, the Hawks clocked-in and clocked-out with a workmanlike 55-42 victory over the visiting ‘Cats. Mid-Prairie built a 20-7 lead in the first quarter and made that stand up the rest of the night. The Hawks shot 48% for the game and held Durant to 25%. Mid-Prairie won the boards by 10, had 15 assists and 12 steals. Callie Huber continued her string of double doubles with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Nora Pennington poured in 15 points and had five assists. The win is the fourth straight for the Golden Hawks to move them to 6-2 on the year.
