U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley recently urged congressional leaders to include key reforms in the Farm Bill update. The Senator shares his thoughts on the reforms, “I’d like to put a cap on the money that one farmer can get, and he’s got to be actively engaged in farming, he can’t be a Wall Street banker that owns farm land, that could be getting hundreds of thousands of dollars from the federal treasury. So I want to cap so that we target the money coming out of the farm program to real farmers. Small to medium size farmers. Not the mega farmers or not the Wall Street bankers that are landlords.” Grassley called on Senate and House leadership to address in the upcoming farm bill the impacts of inflation, waste in farm and nutrition programs and foreign influence in U.S. agriculture.
