Florida Governor and Republican Presidential candidate Ron DeSantis was in Washington County yesterday for a meet and greet at Marr Park.

He was introduced by Oklahoma Governor, Kevin Stitt, who believes DeSantis can not only win the Presidency, but hold the position for multiple terms. “He is a true leader. He gets things done and he never backs down. We need someone in Washington who has that type of mentality and can be there for eight years, not just four.”

Before fielding questions from the public, DeSantis spoke on issues he views as the most prominent facing the country. Covering everything from education, to the state of the military, and geopolitics, DeSantis made his intentions clear ahead of the Iowa Caucuses. “I’m right for President because this country is in a state of decline. We’re in jeopardy of turning over to our kids and grandkids an America less prosperous and less free than the one we inherited. I don’t think, though, this decline is inevitable. I think it’s a choice. It’s a choice we as Americans get to make. It’s a choice you as Iowans get to make on January 15.”

DeSantis will take a break from campaigning to spend Christmas with his family in Florida. Before departing from Ainsworth, KCII was granted an exclusive interview with the Presidential hopeful, which can be heard on today’s JJ Nichting Company In Touch With Southeast Iowa Program.

KCII will bring you live coverage of the Iowa Caucuses on Monday, January 15th.
