WACO Warriors wrestling will have a happy holiday season after putting up good results at the BGM Holiday Brawl Tuesday in Brooklyn. The WACO girls were fifth in the team standings, thanks in part to junior Elyssa Graber winning the tournament championship at 105 pounds by pinning all three of her opponents.
Freshman Deedra Graber took fourth at 115 lbs, while Cayton Coakley was third at 115 for the Warriors, as were fellow juniors Athena Flores and Emma Szewczyk at 120 and 155, respectively.
The WACO boys suffered three team losses in duals Tuesday, losing 66-17 to South Tama before being edged out 37-36 by Baxter and falling 42-36 to BGM. Junior Gage Samo won all three of his bouts at 113 lbs, getting two pins and a technical knockout. The Warriors also got pins to win from junior Louden Huisenga at 190; senior John Mclaughlin at 126; junior Deacon Bird at 138; and freshman Kale Warren at 157.
