The Columbus Wildcats closed out an impressive first half of the girls’ basketball season with a commanding 64-36 victory over New London Thursday. Despite only leading by two at the end of the first quarter, Columbus ended the first half on a 23-8 run to lead 38-21 at halftime, then used a 17-6 run at the start of the third period to seize complete control.
Forward Lily Coil poured in a game-high 21 points to lead the Wildcats, while point guard Ariana Vergara had 19 points and fellow junior Frannie Sosa finished with 13 points to help the Wildcats win their seventh straight game. Columbus enters the winter break undefeated in the North division of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference and 9-1 overall.
