A Mt. Pleasant man is dead following a single-vehicle incident that occurred near Fairfield on December 22.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, 70-year-old Leslie Irvin Decker was driving an SUV about two miles west of Fairfield when his vehicle left the roadway. The incident occurred near the intersection of Highway 34 and Hemlock Avenue. Upon arrival, first responders located the vehicle under the bridge in the median. Decker, the vehicle’s only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Assisting the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was Jefferson County Ambulance, the Fairfield Fire Department, Batavia Fire Department, Fairfield Police Department, and State Medical Examiner’s Office.
