A pair of KCII area schools will take the floor tonight in Kalona when the Hillcrest Academy Raven boys and girls entertain the Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves in a Southeast Iowa Superconference doubleheader at Hillcrest Union. The Raven boys come into tonight with an 8-2 overall record after closing the 2023 portion of the schedule with a 64-17 win over Cedar Valley Christian. The Ravens score 55 points per game and give up 42, shooting 45% from the floor, 34% from three and 59% at the line with 27 boards, 18 assists, 10 steals and 12 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include, Seth Ours at 17 points per game, Mason Bender at six boards per night, and Rowan Miller with six assists and three steals per outing. The Ravens rank in the top 10 of Class 1A in five different team and individual categories.

The Winfield-Mt. Union boys are 8-1 on the year. They are ranked No. 6 in the first Class 1A poll from the Iowa High School Athletic Association. The Wolves were a 66-13 winner over Highland in their final game before Christmas. On the season, the Wolves score 56 points per game and give up 32, shooting 46% from the floor, 36% from deep and 44% at the line with 30 rebounds, 18 assists, 10 steals and 10 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include, Cam Buffington with 17 points and five assists per game, Abram Edwards at 12 boards per night and Jake Edwards with two steals per game. WMU is in the top 10 of 1A in three different team and individual categories. These two teams met on December 9th with the Wolves scoring a 63-35 win in Winfield led by Buffington with 22 points, Edwards with a 14 point 13 rebound double double and Carter Loyd with 11 points. Ours led Hillcrest with 15 points.

The Hillcrest Academy girls come out of the holidays with a 3-8 record after beating Cedar Valley Christian to close December 53-21. This season the Ravens average 39 points per game and give up 42, shooting 29% from the floor, 30% from three and 48% at the line with 32 boards, 10 assists, 12 steals and 20 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include, Claire Withrow with 16 points per night, Malia Yoder at four steals and three assists per game and Delaney Shaw at 10 boards per contest. The Ravens are ranked in the top 10 of Class 1A in four different team and individual stat categories.

The Winfield-Mt. Union girls are also 3-8 this season. They closed 2023 with a 49-34 loss to Highland. This season the Wolves put up 31 points per game and give up 48, shooting 27% from the floor, 16% from long range and 49% at the line with 29 rebounds, eight assists, 10 steals and 29 turnovers per game. Madisen Kellogg leads with 17 points, nine boards and two steals per night. Pacee Schlee averages three assists per game. The Wolves squeaked by the Ravens earlier this season 43-42.
