It’s a new year in Iowa, but the same dry conditions persist for a high percentage of the KCII listening area.
Iowa, Johnson, Washington, Keokuk, Jefferson, Henry, and Louisa Counties are all seeing portions of extreme drought, the second highest intensity level according to the National Drought Mitigation Center. This includes 100 percent of both Johnson and Jefferson Counties, in addition to 93.7 percent of Washington County. Roughly 95 percent of these seven counties has been been classified as at least severe drought, one level below extreme.
