There’s now a tie for first place in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North after the Lone Tree Lions cruised past Wapello 63-40 last night in girls’ basketball. Lone Tree wasn’t always up big, as an 18-12 lead after a quarter of play only expanded to seven points by halftime. But after pushing the advantage to 48-36 going into the final period, the Lions closed the game on a 15-4 run to seal the deal.

The Lone Tree boys fell behind 21-9 after one quarter and could never recover, losing to Wapello 76-43. The Lions fall to 2-6 in the Super Conference North and 5-7 overall.

Meanwhile, the Lone Tree girls improving to 11-1 overall also raises their conference record to 7-1, same as first-place Columbus. The Lions will have a chance to take sole possession of first next week against the Wildcats, but Lone Tree will first need to win at Winfield-Mount Union Friday night.
