It’s a road trip to open 2024 for the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys wrestling team tonight when they travel to Camanche for a River Valley Conference quad with Bellevue, Northeast and the Storm. The Hawks entered the holidays with a 4-7 dual record, scoring wins over English Valleys, Wapello, Dyersville-Beckman and Mediapolis. In tournament action, the Hawk’s highest finish came as team runners-up at New London. This season Trevyn Riley, Max Howe and Burke Berry have all won tournament championships. Tucker Miller has the team lead with 14 victories. Howe and Berry each have 12 wins. Riley, Mason Howe, Austin Bush, Noah Freeman, Max Kipp, Jarron Thomas, Tommy Miller, and Brock Fisher all entered break over .500.

Bellevue is 2-10 this dual season. They have been off since a 47-21 loss to Dubuque Wahlert December 18th. Jake Hiland at 165lbs leads the Comets with a 14-3 overall record. Seth Smith at 165 and Jack Hiland at 285 also have double digit wins. The Hawks beat Bellevue at this event a season ago 39-36.

Northeast has a 3-13 dual mark coming into the night. They were last on the mat December 19th for a quad where they knocked off Savanna of Illinois but fell to Midland and Cascade. Sawyer Schmidt at 175lbs leads the way with a 15-11 record. The Hawks handled the Rebels at this event last year 45-30.

Camanche has a 1-8 dual record through the first half of the year. They were last in action at the Saber Invitational December 16th where they placed 13th of 14 teams with 50.5 points, led by a third place finish for Ethan Edens at 113lbs. Mid-Prairie stopped the Storm last season 39-36.

Action starts tonight at 5:30p.m. at Camanche High School.
