The Fairfield Police Department arrested four juveniles this week as part of a robbery investigation. At approximately 3:50 a.m. on January 2, the Department was dispatched to the 50 block of West Burlington Avenue for a report of an assault.
Upon arrival, officers learned that the victim was meeting with a subject to sell them a cell phone. The victim soon discovered that the money used during the transaction was fraudulent. After attempting to get the phone back, the victim was assaulted by four juvenile subjects who then took the phone and fled the scene in a vehicle.
Officers contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for assistance in locating the vehicle. Deputies were able to identify the vehicle and perform a traffic stop on Highway 34 near Filbert Avenue. Fairfield Police Officers responded and continued their investigation, finding the stolen cell phone and counterfeit money.
While they were taken into custody, one of the four juveniles resisted arrest and assaulted one of the officers. Juvenile A and juvenile B were each charged with second-degree robbery, a class C felony. Juvenile C was charged with second-degree robbery as well, in addition to forgery, a class D felony. Juvenile D was charged with second-degree robbery, a class C felony, interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor, and assault on a peace officer, a serious misdemeanor.
The four juveniles, whose identities have been withheld, are being held at the Southern Iowa Area Juvenile Detention Center in Montrose pending a court appearance.
