The second half of the season starts for many local girls wrestlers this afternoon at Highland High School when the Huskies host their home tournament. The Highland girls have been off since December 16th at the Cedar Rapids Prairie Winter Classic. This season the Huskies have a 2-2 dual record. Their best tournament finish came at BGM where they placed fourth. In tournament action, Lilly Barre, Angelina Roling and Chloe Sexton have each won two titles. Barre is the wins leader with a 20-6 record. Roling, Miller and Sexton are all over .500 on the year.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks got to Christmas with a 6-4 dual record. They last competed in a home quad December 18th where they went 2-1, scoring wins over Wilton and Anamosa but falling to West Liberty. In tournament action, the Hawks highest team finish was second at Wilton. Ashlee Farrier leads the way in individual gold with three tournament championships. Austyn Sexton, Ellie Brenneman, Emmerson Moore and Mardie Berry have each won a title this year. Berry and Brenneman are tied for the team lead with 21 victories this season. Sexton, Becca Westfall, Farrier, Sophie Miller, Moore, Ellie Callahan, Sam Stacey and Addyson Asher all enter the holidays over .500.

Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union has been off since December 22nd at the Eddyville Invitational. The Wildcats have a pair of fourth place team finishes at tournaments this season, once at Keokuk, the other at Pekin as their high water marks. Josie Nelson has won four individual tournament titles for the ‘Cats. She is the team leader with 18 victories. Quinn Smith, Dakota Storm, and Lecet Quiroz all got to break over .500.

The WACO Warriors were last on the mat December 19th at the BGM Holiday Brawl where they had their best team finish of the season taking fifth. Rylee Rice has a trio of individual tournament championships for WACO and Elyssa Graber has also made it to the top of the podium once this winter for the Warriors. Rice is the wins leader at the holiday break with 19. Graber is also over .500 with 16 victories.

The Lone Tree Lions have an 0-4 dual record coming out of Christmas. Their best team tournament finish this year is ninth place at BGM. Individually, Alex Dautremont has the best Lion finish, taking the runner-up spot at BGM. Kayleigh Rundlett was third at Pekin.

Those five schools will be joined today by Burlington, English Valleys, Fort Madison, Iowa City Liberty, Iowa City West, Louisa-Muscatine, Mount Pleasant, Muscatine, Pekin, West Branch and Wilton. Action starts at 4:30 this afternoon and continues into the evening at Highland High School.
