The Sigourney National Honor Society is once again hosting its Pennies for Patients event throughout the month of January.

Collection buckets have been placed in the high school lobby, each with the name of a staff member or coach. The teacher or coach whose bucket receives the most money will be pied in the face at a pep rally assembly to conclude the fundraiser. Students can contribute by dropping their donations in the buckets during the school day. Community members can help the cause too, as NHS members will collect donations during the home wrestling meet January 11, as well as the home basketball games on January 12 and January 30.

Sigourney has held the Pennies for Patients event for the last two decades. For the second year in a row, the proceeds will benefit the VA Central Iowa Healthcare System. Last year, the Sigourney NHS raised nearly $1,000 to be used for the comfort and welfare of Veteran patients.
