The Fairfield Police Department was notified of a male subject displaying a handgun in the 100 block of East Broadway Thursday afternoon.
Fairfield Police Officers and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the area and conducted a search. Due to the proximity of Fairfield Schools, a description of the suspect was given to the District which went under lockdown as a precautionary measure. No juveniles or school employees were involved in this incident.
The suspect, who was later located and taken into custody is 31-year-old Bowe James Cook of Winfield. Cook was charged with possession-intent to deliver cocaine, a class B felony, felon in possession of a firearm, a class D felony, drug tax stamp violation, a class D felony, interference with official acts, a simple misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, also a simple misdemeanor.
The Fairfield Police Department was assisted in the investigation by the Jefferson County Attorney’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and Iowa Department of Public Safety.
