Highland High School served as a girls wrestling showcase Friday for hundreds of local athletes as the Huskies hosted their home invitational.
The top area team finish came from Mid-Prairie with a runner-up performance and 151 points. West Liberty won the team title with 206. The Hawks crowned one champion on the day as Ashlee Farrier won gold at 130lbs, beating Chloe Sokolik of Fort Madison by fall in the title bout. Other top Golden Hawk finishers included Mardie Berry and Ellie Callahan runners-up and Austyn Sexton third.
Highland was ninth at their home tournament with 77 points. Chloe Sexton put on a show in front of the home crowd, winning the title at 190lbs with an exciting 5-4 decision over Amerie Alvarado of West Liberty for the championship. Other top performances for the Huskies included Angelina Roling runner-up and Peggy Miller third.
Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union was 10th of 17 schools with 74 points. The ‘Cats best finish came from Josie Nelson as runner-up at 135lbs.
The WACO Warriors were 13th with 51 points. Elyssa Graber took the top spot on the podium at 105lbs, pinning Alivia Garcia of West Liberty for the championship.
Lone Tree competed, scoring four points. Alex Dautremont recorded a win at by fall for the Lady Lions at 145.
