One of the first big steps in the 2024 presidential election takes place on Monday, January 15 with the First-In-The-Nation Iowa Caucus.

Any Iowa voter registered with either the Democratic or Republican parties can participate in this step of the election process by simply arriving at one of the precincts by 7 p.m. Monday. Each participant must have a valid form of identification, and anyone planning on registering at their respective precinct must also bring proof of their address.

Republican precincts in Washington include the Court House, Stewart Elementary, United Presbyterian Home, and Washington High School. Additional Washington County precincts will be the Conservation Center at Marr Park, Brighton Gym, East Elementary in Kalona, Richmond AMVETS, Riverside City Hall, and the Wellman Parkside YMCA. All precincts for the Democratic Party will be housed in the Washington Public Library. Democrats may also mail in their expression of Presidential preference or submit it online. That form is available on the Iowa Democratic Party website.

Washington County Auditor, Dan Widmer, tells KCII that despite potential subzero temperatures forecast for Monday, the Iowa Caucus will go on as scheduled. “The Caucuses will be held on Monday evening no matter the weather, no matter the temperature.”

All precinct doors open at 5:30 p.m. With additional Republican Caucus questions, contact Co-Chairs of the Washington County Republicans Abe Miller at 319-461-0164 or Merle Miller at 319-330-2990. For Democratic questions, contact Washington County Democratic Chair Sandra Johnson at 319-430-8537. To access a map of Washington County voting precincts, click here.
