Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union boys’ wrestling came through with another pair of dual victories on their home mat last night, defeating the WACO Warriors 70-12 and knocking off New London 66-15.
Sophomore Bowen Thomson got things started for the Wildcats against WACO by pinning his opponent at 132 pounds, and he was followed with the same by junior Kohlby Newsom at 138 lbs; senior Cael Phillips at 144; sophomore Trevor Phillips at 150; senior Cole Storm at 165; junior Cooper Buffington at 215; senior Russell Coil at 285; sophomore Dakota Aney at 106; and senior Ty Scorpil at 126.
Junior Sheaden Adams added a victory at 157 against the Warriors by a 10-1 major decision. Thomson needed just 53 seconds to pin his opponent and get Columbus/WMU’s first head-to-head win against New London, and Trevor Phillips did the same in just over three minutes.
In the dual against the Wildcats, WACO juniors Louden Huisenga and Gage Samo each picked up a pin. The Warriors would roll past New London 52-18, thanks in part to Samo winning by an 11-1 major decision at 126 lbs. Senior John McLaughlin also pinned his Tiger opponent at 132.
