It was a tough night on the road in the River Valley Conference Thursday for the Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams as they dropped both ends of an RVC doubleheader in Iowa City to the Regals. In the boys contest, the Hawks were beaten 69-52. Regina rolled early, scoring the first 13 points of the game and putting together a 26-7 run that lasted the entire first period. The Regals had a 38-19 lead the break. The Hawks raced out of half with the first eight points in the third frame, and parlayed that into a 14-2 run to climb with 10, but that was as close as they would get, as Regina kept Mid-Prairie at arms length the rest of the night. The Hawks outrebounded the Regals by 10, Regina won the turnover battle 12-8. The Regals were led by Michael Martin with a game high 30 points, including six threes, Drew Streb added 14. The Golden Hawks got a career high 23 points from Bryce Henry, brother Dylan Henry added 15 points. The win keeps Regina unbeaten in league play at 6-0 and 10-2 overall. The Hawks are now 3-3 in conference and 4-5 on the season.

The girls contest was for a share of first place in the RVC South at the halfway point of the season as Regina entered the night with a half game lead over the Hawks. It was the No. 3 in Class 2A Regals that scored the key win, 70-46. Regina found themselves on top 17-12 after the first frame, and used a 19-9 second period run to go up 36-21 at half. The Regals put the game away with a 19-8 run that lasted the entire third quarter. The Golden Hawks outrebounded Regina by eight, but couldn’t overcome 36 turnovers. Mid-Prairie forced 17 Regina giveaways. The Regals put four in double figures, led by 23 points for Morgan Miller, 14 for Alli Clark, 13 for Ella McLaughlin and 11 points for Caitlin Martin. The Golden Hawks got a career high 11 points from Brylee Gearhart. Callie Huber had nine boards. Regina is now 11-2 on the season, 6-0 in the RVC while the Hawks fall to 6-5 on the year, 5-2 in conference play.
