The Keota Eagles continued their undefeated boys’ basketball season with a 74-64 road victory over North Mahaska Thursday night. The seventh-ranked team in Class 1A turned a four-point lead in the first quarter into a 44-31 advantage at halftime. Keota stretched the lead to 13 points headed into the final period and held on from there.
Sawyer Stout knocked down four three pointers for the Eagles on his way to game highs of 21 points and eight assists. Fellow senior Evan Vittetoe had a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds while also putting up five assists and three blocked shots.
Keota point guard Cole Kindred came up with 14 points, four assists, three steals and two blocks, while fellow senior Tanner Waterhouse had 12 points and three dimes to help the Eagles improve to 12-0.
The Keota girls’ early 12-point deficit swelled to 41-9 at halftime, and they could never recover in a 66-16 loss to North Mahaska. The Eagles drop to 2-10 and will next be in action Tuesday against their rivals from Sigourney.
