School administrators have been putting in overtime for the last week plus, trying to work around the harsh Iowa winter weather to get events in for local student athletes. At Mid-Prairie High School alone, since Monday, January 8th, seven varsity events have been canceled, postponed or rescheduled. Monday the eighth, the Hawks were to battle rival Williamsburg in a boy/girl varsity basketball doubleheader that will now be played February 1st. The Golden Hawk girls wrestling team was to take on Northeast, Wilton and West Branch in a River Valley Conference quad with no makeup set at this time. Tuesday, January 9th, the Mid-Prairie basketball teams had a doubleheader at Iowa City Regina moved to Thursday the 11th, which they were able to complete in a window between a pair of storms that dropped two feet of snow total over the listening area.

Friday, January 12th, Mid-Prairie’s basketball boys and girls varsity doubleheader with Tipton was rescheduled to February 5th. On Saturday, the Golden Hawk boys wrestling trip to WACO for a tournament was derailed and rescheduled to February 3rd. The Mid-Prairie archery team saw their tournament at North Scott canceled with no makeup date planned. The Golden Hawk girls wrestling team was set to host their home tournament Saturday, which was postponed to today, Monday, January 15th, which was then canceled with no makeup date planned.

As of Monday, January 15th, here is a look at the upcoming events for all Golden Hawk winter programs. The Mid-Prairie archery team is scheduled to host their first ever home tournament Saturday, January 20th at Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman. The Mid-Prairie boys and girls wrestling teams are scheduled to travel to Eddyville-Blakesburg Tuesday, January 16th, for the first of it’s kind “Beauty and the Beasts” Dual where the Hawks and Rockets will meet in a boy/girl double dual. The Mid-Prairie basketball teams are scheduled to take on West Branch Tuesday, January 16th inside Tim Grady Gymnasium.
