One of the best on the mat in Southeast Iowa and all of the state has made the shortlist for a major statewide recognition. Sigourney standout Reanah Utterback has been named one of 15 quarterfinalists around the Hawkeye State for the Dan Gable Ms. Wrestler of the Year Award. So far this season, the previous national champ, girls state champ and boys state place winner, has rolled up a record of 29-0. This year Utterback has won individual tournament titles at Central Elkader, the Dan Gable Donnybrook, Wapello, Pekin, Chariton, Eddyville, Ottumwa and Cascade. She is ranked No. 1 at 110lbs in the latest rankings from IAWrestle.com.

The contest for Ms. Wrestler of the Year is sponsored by IAWrestle.com and the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association. To begin the process, the IWCOA accepted nominations from high school coaches, a committee from the sponsor organizations then narrowed the list to 15 quarterfinalists, Utterback being one. Friday, January 19th at noon, the seven semifinalists will be chosen based on vote totals. Three finalists will be chosen after another round of voting that concludes February 5th.

Voting for the award is done by the 12-person committee from the IWCOA and also includes an online fan vote total. Fan voting this round wraps up Friday at noon.

The Ms. Wrestler of the Year award will be presented at noon, Wednesday, February 28th at the Fareway Conference Center in Boone by Iowa wrestling legends Dan Gable and Mark Ironside.
