The Mid-Prairie boys and girls basketball teams are back in action Thursday when they welcome the West Liberty Comets to Tim Grady Gymnasium in Wellman for a River Valley Conference doubleheader. Both teams of Hawks are looking to get back on track after being swept a week ago in Iowa City by the Regals. The Mid-Prairie boys are 4-5 this year, 3-3 in the RVC after a 69-52 setback against the Regals where Bryce Henry connected for a career high 23 points and Dylan Henry added 15. This season the Golden Hawks score 59 points per game and give up 59, shooting 42% from the floor, 34% from three and 72% at the line with 30 boards, 14 assists, seven steals and 18 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include, Bryce Henry with 11 points and Brady Weber with five boards, five assists and three steals per night.

West Liberty is 3-6 this year, 1-4 in the River Valley. They have been off since a wild 52-50 win at Hillcrest Academy January 6th that saw them escape a game winning attempt at the buzzer behind 15 points from Jayce McHugh. This season the Comets score 52 points per night and give up 61, shooting 43% from the field, 26% from deep and 61% at the line with 23 rebounds, nine assists, 10 steals and 15 turnovers per night. Individual leaders include McHugh with 19 points per game and eight boards, along with Dengler at three steals and two assists per night. Mid-Prairie beat the Comets in West Liberty before Christmas 69-51 and have won six straight in the series.

The Golden Hawk girls are 6-5 this year, 4-2 in the RVC after dropping a 70-46 decision at Regina, despite a career high 11 points from Brylee Gearhart. This season the Hawks score 55 points per game and give up 52, shooting 40% from the floor, 30% from three and 52% at the line with 37 rebounds, 13 assists, 12 steals and 21 turnovers per night. Individual leaders include, Callie Huber with 11 points and 10 boards per night, Nora Pennington with three steals and Jovi Evans with three assists per game.

West Liberty is 2-9 on the year, 1-4 in the RVC after a 49-33 win over Camanche last time out where Pearson Hall had a game high 17 points. This season the Comets score 34 per night and give up 47, shooting 26% from the field, 17% from downtown and 46% at the line with 28 rebounds, six assists, seven steals and 18 turnovers per game. Hall leads the way individually with 11 points, three steals and two assists per game. Maelyn Wainwright has nine boards per night. The Hawks beat the Comets on their home floor prior to break 61-33 and have won three of the previous four in the series.
