A Keota man turned himself in last week after he was wanted for at least nine different driving-related charges that occurred in December.
According to court documents, a Washington County Deputy attempted to perform a traffic stop on 61-year-old Thomas Thompson on December 2 for failure to maintain lane and expired registration. Thompson then fled and eluded law enforcement, intentionally colliding with the police vehicle in attempts to disable it. While fleeing, Thompson’s vehicle reached speeds in excess of 105 miles per hour. It was also discovered that the vehicle’s registration was 3 years expired at this time.
Thompson’s initial court appearance was held on January 11, with further proceedings to be held in relation to the following offenses: eluding with speeds 25 miles per hour over the limit, second or subsequent offense, a class C felony, second degree criminal mischief, a class D felony, driving while barred, a serious misdemeanor, reckless driving, a simple misdemeanor, in addition to leaving the scene of an accident, failure to give a continuous turn signal, failure to obey a traffic control device, and careless driving. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 19.
