Two high powered offenses got together Saturday in Maquoketa when the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys basketball team met the Bellevue Comets at the boys River Valley Conference Shoot Out. It was the Comets that got by the Hawks 89-83. Bellevue led early, 18-14 after the first and 38-35 at half. Mid-Prairie exploded for 32 points in the third frame to take the lead into the final period at 67-58. The Comets answered with a 31 point fourth to take the come-from-behind win.
Bellevue shot 52% and had 25 assists in the win. Hunter Putman paced the Comet attack with 28 points, as they put four in double figures. The Hawks shot 49% and made an incredible 17 three pointers as a team. Ace Peck had seven of those on his way to a game high 26 points. Bryce and Dylan Henry each scored 16 and Brady Weber went double double with 10 points and 11 assists, to go with a team high six boards.
The Golden Hawks are now 5-6 on the year and are back in action tonight with a boy/girl doubleheader when they travel to Mount Pleasant. The girls game is set for 6p.m.
