The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams take the floor tonight against Mount Pleasant for a non-conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk girls are 8-5 this year after back-to-back wins last week over West Branch and West Liberty. Friday against the Bears it was a 62-53 victory, paced by 16 points from Jovi Evans and 15 for Nora Pennington. On the year, the Hawks score 55 points per game and give up 52, shooting 41% from the floor, 29% from three and 54% at the line with 37 rebounds, 13 assists, 12 steals and 20 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Callie Huber at 10 points and nine boards per night, Pennington with four steals and Evans with three assists per game.
Mount Pleasant is 3-10 this year after dropping a 76-34 game at Danville last week. On the year, the Panthers score 30 points per game and give up 56, shooting 33% from the field, 16% from three and 55% at the line with 23 rebounds, six assists, and nine steals per game. Individually, Abby Carthey has 10 points, two steals and an assist per game. Alexa Fuller grabs five boards per night. Mid-Prairie won this matchup a season ago 61-51.
The Golden Hawk boys are 5-6 after a tough 89-83 loss Saturday to Bellevue at the River Valley Conference Shoot Out in Maquoketa. On the year, the Hawks average 62 points per game and give up 61, shooting 42% from the floor, 33% from three and 70% at the line with 28 rebounds, 13 assists, seven steals and 16 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include, Ace Peck and Bryce Henry each at 12 points per game with Brady Weber putting up six assists, five boards and three steals per night.
Mount Pleasant is 8-4 this season after a 53-52 loss to Fort Madison Friday. On the year, the Panthers average 62 points per game and give up 52, shooting 47% from the floor, 29% from deep and 72% at the line with 32 rebounds, 14 assists, eight steals and 12 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Payton Hagans with 24 points, four assists and three steals per night. Nate Stroud averages seven boards per game. The Panthers have won four straight in the series including a 66-59 victory last year.
