Area high school girls’ wrestlers got one final chance to hit the mat before state qualifying by competing in tournaments this weekend. Among the top performers once again was Sigourney-Keota’s Reanah Utterback. The junior continued her undefeated season Saturday by winning the championship at 115 pounds at the Colfax Varsity Tournament, pinning all four of her opponents to improve to 36-0.
SK junior Jolie Wehr finished fifth at Colfax-Mingo at 105 lbs, while WACO juniors Elyssa Graber and Rylee Rice were also medalists at the tournament, with Graber finishing third at 105 and Rice fifth at 110.
Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union had a pair of runners-up Saturday at the Louisa-Muscatine Tournament. Sophomore Quinn Smith pinned her first two opponents at 130 lbs before getting pinned in the final. Junior Josie Nelson did the same at 140, while Wildcat sophomore Jana Isanta took third at 120.
Highland freshman Chloe Sexton also came close to a title but took second place at 190 lbs Friday at the Midland Invitational. Junior Peggy Miller was third for the Huskies at 155, while Abbie Grout was fifth at 100 and fellow senior Jenna Bose was seventh at 145. Lone Tree had a pair of medalists at Midland, as Alex Dautremont took third at 140 and fellow Lion junior Kayleigh Rundlett finished fourth at 135.
