The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls basketball teams hit the road tonight to match up with the Durant Wildcats in a River Valley Conference doubleheader. The Golden Hawk girls are 8-5 this year after back-to-back wins last week over West Branch and West Liberty. Friday against the Bears it was a 62-53 victory, paced by 16 points from Jovi Evans and 15 for Nora Pennington. On the year, the Hawks score 55 points per game and give up 52, shooting 41% from the floor, 29% from three and 54% at the line with 37 rebounds, 13 assists, 12 steals and 20 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include Callie Huber at 10 points and nine boards per night, Pennington with four steals and Evans with three assists per game.
The Durant girls are 4-9 on the season 0-6 in conference play after a 70-46 loss against Iowa City Regina Thursday where Isabelle DeLong led the way with 14 points. On the season, the Wildcats score 44 points per game and give up 46, shooting 32% from the floor, 25% from three and 52% at the line with 33 rebounds, nine assists, 11 steals and 19 turnovers per game. Individually, DeLong puts up 15 points per night, Katelyn Toft has eight boards and Avery Paper two assists and two steals per game. These two teams met in December with the Hawks grabbing a 55-42 win, their eighth straight in the series.
The Golden Hawk boys are 5-6 after a tough 89-83 loss Saturday to Bellevue at the River Valley Conference Shoot Out in Maquoketa, led by 26 points from Ace Peck. On the year, the Hawks average 62 points per game and give up 61, shooting 42% from the floor, 33% from three and 70% at the line with 28 rebounds, 13 assists, seven steals and 16 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include, Peck and Bryce Henry each at 12 points per game with Brady Weber putting up six assists, five boards and three steals per night.
The Durant boys are 0-14 on the year and winless in conference play. They were beaten at the River Valley Shoot Out Saturday 78-44 by Camanche, despite 12 points from Race Starr. This year the Wildcats score 38 per night and give up 72, shooting 32% from the field, 24% from deep and 51% at the line with 26 rebounds, eight assists, six steals and 21 turnovers per game. Individual leaders include, Bryce Daufeldt with 11 points and eight boards per night with Starr at two assists and a steal per game. The Hawks beat the Wildcats before Christmas 81-43 for their eighth straight win in the series.
